Get a faster, more useful answer
Most questions are about a specific estimate. Include these and we can check the numbers instead of guessing:
- The calculator you used and the page address.
- Your deck size, height off the ground and decking material.
- Your ZIP code or state, because labor rates and footing depth change by region.
- The figure that looks wrong and what you expected instead, for example a contractor quote.
Many answers are already on the site. The how it works page explains where the cost ranges come from, the deck permit guide covers permits and inspections, and the joist span chart answers most framing questions. We can't give engineering or code approval for a specific deck; for that, ask your local building department or a licensed contractor.
